Pemex awarded reserves it requested in Mexico energy reform

Sener, Mexico's ministry of energy; and the National Hydrocarbons Commission (Mexico City) have assigned to Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex) the rights to 83% of the country's probable and proven (2P) oil and gas reserves, Sener announced. These represent the entirety of the 2P reserves that Pemex had requested during "round zero" of the country's energy reform, Sener says. These reserves require infrastructure investment. The president of Mexico, Enrique Pe?a Nieto, signed the country's energy reform bill into law earlier this week. However, Pemex only obtained 21% of the proven, probable, and potential (3P) reserves it sought, Sener adds. The company initially bid for 31% of the 3P reserves—areas where oil has not yet been discovered and that will require a greater degree of investment and exploration to exploit fully.
