Mechel Starts Coal Production At Elga Concession In November-Planning to produce 200,000 MT of coal within 2010-

On 18th February (17th by local time) one of the major metal resources concerns of Russia, Mechel OAO, announced to start coal production by Elga Project, large scale coal project in Sakha Republic, within 2010. Elga Project is to develop undeveloped giant opencut concession (Elga concession) located about 350 km east of Nerungrinsky coal mine in Sakha Republic and to export hard coking coal and high quality thermal coal produced at the concession to the Asian Region including Japan. Minable thermal coal reserves at the concession amount to 2,170 million MT (560 million MT of metallurgical coal and 1,610 million MT of thermal coal) and Mechel plans to produce 27 million MT to 30 million MT per year of coal at the concession.
