We have prepared green cell suspension cultures of Marchantia. polymorpha, Marchantia plicata, Riccia fluitans and Asterella blumeana. Whole cell biotransformations of the hydrolase type were studied using different exogenous substrates resulting in a small to large-scale production of useful homochiral compounds.
