To the Editor:Microdissection is a powerful technique that can selectively separate targeted cells from paraffin-embedded tissue samples. Methods including laser-capture microdissection and manual microdissection are currently being used. Laser-capture microdissection may entail expenditure on expensive equipment and the specified supplies. By contrast, manual microdissection does not require special equipment or supplies. Therefore, manual microdissection is suitable for processing a relatively small number of samples. Manual microdissection requires some skill to obtain targeted samples appropriately from the slide glass. Small tissue fragments are often blown away by airflow generated by air-conditioners or the movements of the experimenter.
