Thyroid Ultrasound-Guided Fine-Need!e Aspiration: A Case Report Emphasizing the Sonographic Features of Benign Versus Malignant Thyroid Nodules

The pathologist who chooses to engage in ultrasound-directed needle aspiration biopsy is in the unique position of having 100% cytologic correlation for every ultrasound examination performed. By combining this high level of cytologic feedback with a diligent study of the available literature on benign versus malignant thyroid ultrasound criteria, the pathologist's sonographic diagnostic skill set will continuously improve. As demonstrated in this case study, the pathologist can recognize an incorrect conclusion in a radiology report and make correction for the benefit of the patient. This case report demonstrates these principles and reviews criteria basics.
