BASF Total Petrochemicals commissions new cracker furnace at Port Arthur, TX

BASF Total Petrochemicals, a 60-40 joint venture between BASF and Total, on Monday announced the start-up of its 10th furnace at its steam cracker facility at Port Arthur, TX. The addi- tional furnace improves feedstock fexibility, enhances plant reliability, and increases annual production capacity of ethylene to more than 1 million m.t./year. Other optimization measures included a revamp of the steam cracker to process ethane, which was achieved last year. “The safe and successful start-up of the 10th furnace, along with other optimization measures taken at the steam cracker facility, enhances the joint venture’s competi- tive position within the petrochemicals industry,” says Heidi Alderman, senior v.p./petrochemicals at BASF. “This investment is another example of BASF Total Petrochemicals’ strong com- mitment to its Port Arthur operations.”
