Arkema, following a major restructuring of its portfolio, is allocating large funds to growth projects. Thierry Le Hénaf, CEO, said at a recent company presentation in Paris that Arkema is investing ?1.7 billion ($2.4 billion) in the four years through 2016. The capex allocation for this year alone is ?450 million. Projects include a previously announced expansion of the acrylics operation at Clear Lake, TX and construction of thiochemicals facilities in Malaysia. Commercial start-up at the Kertih, Malaysia facili- ties is expected in mid-2014, and by 2016 these operations are expected to generate annual sales of $120 million.
