Estimating the pulping yield by carbohydrate analysis

A method has been developed for estimating the pulping yield from the composition of the carbohydrate content of the pulp.When yield-increasing additives such as anthraquinone and polysulfide are used,the increase in yield can be estimated from the content of glucomannan.The utility of this method has been confirmed in both laboratory experiments and full-scale mill experiments.The carbohydrate composition was determined with enzymatic hydrolysis followed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC).
