Shell to buy site in Monaca, PA, for cracker project

Shell Chemical is exercising its option to buy a site in Monaca, PA, for a potential world-scale ethylene and derivatives project, according to Horsehead Holding, owner of the site. The deal brings the project, which would include an ethane cracker and polyethylene plants, one step closer to realization. However, Shell has not made a final investment decision. In June, Shell Chemicals executive v.p. Graham van’t Hoff said the project had entered front-end engineering and design (FEED) earlier in the year.
