Agrium Offers to Acquire Australian Grain Firm for $1.1 Billion

Agrium says it has offered to acquire grain marketer AWB Ltd (Melbourne) for about A$1.24 billion ($1.1 billion). The proposed purchase price represents a 57% premium to AWB's trading price on the Australian Securities Exchange on July 29. "The proposed transaction with AWB would continue Agrium's strategy of growing its retail business," says Agrium president and CEO Mike Wilson.
