The Norrish type II reaction is known as the photochemically induced #alpha#,#beta#-fragmentation of ketones with a concurrent hydrogen transfer from the #gamma#-carbon to the carbonyl oxygen to yield alkenes and methyl ketones~1. This reaction is applicable to a wide range of substrates, and has developed ihnto a useful synthetic and mechanistic tool in organic chemistry~2.
