Due to higher raw material prices and tight supply,The Program of Excellence in Natural Rubber Alternatives(PENRA)in the US is researching the possibilities of a new source of natural rubber(NR)that would be available in the country.An alternative is the Russian Dandelion,scientifically known as Taraxacum kok-saghyz(TKS),as its roots have the potential to be processed into NR for use in the sidewall,base and tread components of tyres.Russian Dandelions have a similar appearance to more common dandelions but have a more complex root system.
