Full steam ahead for butyl rubber

The butyl rubber market is expected to grow at an average of 3% a year and it is this growth, along with the bustling tyre cum automotive sector, that is stimulating companies to invest in butyl plants to increase the polymer's capacity. Recently, German speciality chemicals company Lanxess held a ground breaking ceremony for its delayed EUR400 million butyl rubber plant in Singapore, with the start-up brought forward to the third quarter of 2013 from 2014.
