Colossal growth from largest country

The China Rubber Industry Association says that the country is expected to increase imports of the commodity by 8.7% this year,mainly to meet the voracious appetite of its tyre and footwear manufacturers. In the first half 2006,China imported 720,000 tonnes of NR,up 13.2% from the same period a year earlier. The total import value was US1.27 billion,up 68.2%. This year,the country is expected to import 1.75 million tonnes of NR and 1.5 million tonnes of synthetic rubber(SR),up by 15% compared to last year. In the first two months of this year,China imported 250,000 tonnes of NR,which is an increase of 14% compared to the same period last year,according to data from the General Administration of Customs.
