With the enforcement of new environmental regulations on emissions, automotive manufacturers have had to rethink how a fuel tank should be made. The 2004 California LEV2 (low emission vehicles) and the PZEV (partial zero emission vehicles) regulations, which will be enforced next year, require minimal petrol vapours to emit from the tank wall to the rest of the car.Inevitably, this will mean that less permeable materials will have to be used and better devices for connecting the fuel tanks will have to be developed.
