Engine cover from Akulon

When it was looking for a material for an engine cover, Lian Xiang, which is a Tier 1 supplier to the Chinese car industry, turned to DSM Engineering Plastics (DEP) for a solution. The engine cover design called for a large part with a size of 800 x 1,000 mm and thickness ranging between 3-4 mm. In the preliminary analysis by DSM, it was found that with standard glass-reinforced PA6, the mould would be difficult to fill and even if filling were achieved, warpage in the 3 kg part would be higher than acceptable. DSM provided Lian Xiang with Akulon Ultraflow K-FHGM24, a grade that is said to have excellent flow and high stiffness, features that were suitable for this application.
