If a manual is not available to set guidelines, the employee may make their own decisions to solve problems, which can often result in confusion, inconsistencies, and mistakes.The components of a policy document contain a definition of the purpose of the policy. This is a few sentences that are clear, concise, and states how the company intends to conduct its services or business. The procedure describes how each policy will be carried out within the company. The procedure should outline who is responsible for the policy, what steps need to be taken to follow the policy, and which forms or documents will be used to maintain the policy. Procedures may be bullet points, forms, checklists, instructions, or flowcharts.
