Eagles don't catch flies.An eagle knows what it is: the top predatory bird in the forest. It does not forget its nature; it soars high on the wind, catches choice food, and fears no natural enemy. Its life is spent ruling all it surveys. In the animal kingdom, the life of the eagle would be considered one of the most desirable.Why is it that people, the apex of all animals, so often forget who they are? Why do we humans so often not live our lives to the fullest? It is easy for the routine monotonies of life to crowd out what is truly valuable. Often the tyranny of the present (in which the urgent, making the loudest demands, gets tended to first, leaving the important to a subordinate priority) crowds out the substance of life as a whole, leaving us accomplished but spiritually bankrupt. Generally speaking, we plastic surgeons are a group who enjoy our lives well, and fully, but even we occasionally need reminders of what is important. How does one live life to the fullest? Here are some thoughts drawn from the errors and mistakes I have made in my life.
