Discussion: outcome of different timings of radiotherapy in implant-based breast reconstructions.

The irradiated breast is increasingly seen for reconstruction because of recurrence after lumpectomy and the use of postmastectomy irradiation for large tumors or for patients with more than two to four positive nodes. Many patients do not want big flap operations with secondary operative sites and do not want to have delayed reconstruction, so the plastic surgeon is faced with working with implants and irradiated tissue.
