摘要

Ennis et al. eloquently reviewed the current status of electrical stimulation and ultrasound in wound care. These modalities share in common the delivery of energy to target tissues. Electrical field therapy has long been used in wound care. Noncontact, low-frequency ultrasound therapy has been shown to positively affect the healing process by modulating inflammation, serving as a wound debrider or healing promoter. The effects of ultrasound on wound healing have been studied extensively over the past 50 years. In recent years, the widespread use of low-frequency ultrasound for wound care has been paired with a growing body of literature showing very promising preclinical and clinical data. The use of energy-based modalities has been shown to promote an-giogenesis, inhibit an excessive inflammatory environment, and improve the bioburden. In this interesting article, Dr. Ennis et al. familiarize the reader with these advanced therapies and explain how they can be incorporated into current clinical treatment for difficult-to-heal wounds.
