Over 30 million Americans suffer from migraine headaches. The striking prevalence and disabling nature of migraine headache make it a topic of major health concern, yet the condition remains largely underdiagnosed and undertreated. As the cause is unclear, there is no proven cure, and most migraine sufferers manage their headaches with a combination of prophylactic, acute analgesic, and acute abortive medications. Approximately one-third of migraine sufferers are not helped by these standard therapies.
