The No-Drill Drill: A New Adhesive for Point-Supported Glass

Transparency continues to reign when it comes to architectural facades, and Dow Coming's goal was to provide a new, clear option for point-supported glazing. As a result, the company introduced its transparent structural silicone adhesive (TSSA) in December 2012. Fittings adhere onto the glass without any need to penetrate the surface of the glass itself. Among major uses, TSSA can be used for point-fixed glazing with gas-filled insulating glass units (IGUs), as the silicone bonding removes the need to countersink bolts into the glass and thereby potentially leak gas. Its design strength is 10 times higher than conventional silicone structural glazing sealants, the company says.
