摘要

The development of an effective interbody prosthesis has allowed for uniform success in this formerly demanding procedure. Cylindrical, threaded, and perforated interbody implants are inserted in pairs, providing distraction and significant immediate stability. Instrumentation is designed with controlled depth stops which enhances both simplicity and safety for the surgeon and patient, respectively. Anterior implant can be achieved through retroperitoneal open surgery or transperitoneal laparoscopic exposure. Posterior application is accomplished by laminectomy, using the laminar and spin-ous process bone for fusion material. Typical surgical times for single level fusion are 90 minutes for anterior retroperitoneal surgery and 150 minutes for posterior implant. Fusion rates for single level anterior fusion and posterior insertion are 98% and 94%, respectively.
