Electron spin resonance, magnetic and optical properties of MnCl2 filled PVC films

摘要

PVC films filled with various mass fractions of MnCl2 were prepared. The X-ray diffraction spectra indicated the presence of mesomorphous phases at certain filling levels. The infrared absorption spectra revealed some absorption bands, significantly sensitive to the mode of filling. The UV/VIS absorption spectra (200-800 nm) resulted in two optical gaps of filling level dependent widths. The analysis of ESR spectra implied an octahedral coordination of Mn ions within the PVC matrix. The implications of the de magnetic susceptibility data were discussed on the basis of the one dimensional Ising antiferromagnetic interaction model, assuming a distribution of the magnetic centers along the polymeric chains. The calculated magnetic interaction coupling constant was found to depend linearly on the MnCl2 filling level. (C) 1998 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved. [References: 22]
