The use of experimental design in the development of unsaturated polyester resins is described. The process conditions, which are critical in order to achieve an unsaturated polyester with good delamination strength, have been identified and optimised. Qualitative data was obtained by using response surface modelling, and the delamination strength was estimated using a wedge test and the double cantilever beam method.
