Polyesters(including polyarylates)were first synthesized by the method of nonequilibrium poly-condensation in supercritical carbon dioxide.Using acceptor-catalyzed polyesterification of dicarboxylic acid dichlorides with diols as an example,it was shown that the inherent viscosity and the yield of polymers are effected by the solubility of the reactants in supercritical carbon dioxide,the nature of an acceptor catalyst(a tertiary amine),and reaction temperature and time.An increase in the reactant solubility and the reaction time leads to higher viscosity(up to 0.29 dl/g)and yield(up to 83%)of polymers.
