New chapters in the story of PD.

In this issue of Peritoneal Diaiysis International (PDI), I would like to focus attention on the development, over the past decade, of the various chapters of the InternationalSocietyfor Peritoneal Dialysis (ISPD). Such a focus is appropriate, because this year sees four regional chapter meetingstaking place: in Europe, North America, Latin America, and Asia. ThelSPD's existence started in 1979, with itsinaugural congress in Mexico. Initially, the ISPD met every three years, but since 2004, congresses have been scheduled for every second year, and they typically rotate between the various continents. The 2004 congress was in Amsterdam, and those for 2006, 2008, and 2010 were held in Hong Kong, Istanbul, and Mexico City respectively. The Fourteenth Congress is planned for Kuala Lumpur in October 2012.
