PULSE PRESSURE. WHY IS IT IMPORTANT?

Pulse pressure as a blood pressure (BP) parameter is an important mortality predictor (1-3) and, among hemodialysis (HD) patients, pulse pressure appears to be a stronger independent predictor of morbidity and mortality than other BP parameters such as systolic (SBP), diastolic (DBP), and mean arterial BP (4). In this issue of Peritoneal Dialysis International, Liu etal. demonstrate an association between pulse pressure and high transport status among peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients (5).
