Comparative Study of Adequacy of Dialysis and Health-Related Quality of Life in Patients on CAPD and APD

Adequate dialysis is associated with prolonged patient survival, reduced technique failure, and Lower hospital-ization rates but the relationship between solute clearance and health-related quality of life (HR-QOL) is not clear. HR-QOLis an important marker of disease burden and can be used to assess the effectiveness of a treatment and predict risk of adverse outcomes. Very few studies have compared HR-QOL among patients on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD) and automated peritoneaL dialysis (APD). In the present study we included end-stage renal disease (ESRD) patients having high/high-average peritoneaL transport characteristics and who were treated sequentially with the two modalities of continuous peritoneal dialysis (PD); the parameters of adequacy of dialysis and HR-QOL were compared.
