Bordetella bronchiseptica peritonitis -- beware of the dog!

Editor:Bordetella bronchiseptica is a gram-negative cocco-bacillus that causes tracheobronchitis, or "kennel cough," in dogs. It is an uncommon pathogen in human beings and is characterized by a relatively nonthreaten-ing whooping cough-like syndrome in immunocompro-mised individuals. We report the case of a patient on continuous cycling peritoneal dialysis (CCPD) who developed peritonitis due to Bordetella bronchiseptica from contact with an infected dog.
