US state to ban FR agent

California has officially banned pentabromodiphenyl ether (pentaBDE), with effect from 2008, under a law signed 9 Aug by the State's governor. While the European Union will also ban penta-DBE from mid-2004, California's move is of far greater concern to Great Lakes Chemical Corp-the world's only producer of the additive, which is primarily used as a flame retardant for flexible polyurethane foam.
