Alumina-magnesia castables have become a principal material for unshaped refractories for steel ladle linings. A feature of this castable is densification through spinel formation at high temperature, resulting in prevention of slag penetration and superior resistance against slag corrosion. However, as a disadvantage, failure by peeling and wearing takes place in some operational conditions, making a difficult compromise. In the present paper, a study was made on the change of corrosion resistance with differences in slag compositions.
