GOOD OPPORTUNITIES IN THE GLOBAL PROPYLENE OXIDE MARKET

The global propylene oxide (PO) business underwent an unexpected dislocation from 2008, as end-use markets for PO derivatives plunged sharply, caused by the world economic downturn. But the PO sector has recovered comfortably in 2011. Downstream markets for PO derivatives, such as furniture and bedding, automotive production and consumer goods, were slow to emerge from the reduction in activity in 2010 in developed economies but a recovery to historic growth trends is forecast by 2011 and the cost of PO has soared on the back of tight propylene supply.
