Midland, Michigan - Dow announced 9 June that the SCG-Dow Group, a joint-venture between Dow and The Siam Cement Group (SCC), has broken ground on a new propylene oxide plant near Map Ta Phut in Thailand. According to Dow the plant will have a nameplate capacity of 390 kilotonnes per annum (ktpa) of propylene oxide via the innovative hydrogen-peroxide-to-propylene-oxide (HPPO) technology jointly developed by Dow and BASF. The plant will also produce propylene glycol and is expected to come online in 2011, the company said.
