The authors present a retrospective case series of their experience with the AdVance sling as a means to salvage recurrent stress urinary incontinence (SUI) after artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) implantation. Albeit limited and retrospective, their report is a welcome addition to the literature. The primary aim was to investigate the efficacy of the AdVance sling to salvage recurrent SUI caused by urethral atrophy after initial AUS placement. All patients in this series had postprostatectomy SUI. Success with male urethral slings has revolutionized the treatment of male SUI by providing a less invasive alternative to the AUS. A single-center prospective study of success after AdVance sling placement in 102 men with mild-moderate male SUI using the Patient Global Impression of Improvement questionnaire was recently reported. At a median follow-up of 13 months, 87% of patients reported their symptoms as improved ("very much better," 50%, "much better," 26%; or "a little better," 11%). Furthermore, a study of men with postprostatectomy SUI (urine pad weights of 100-400 g/24 hours) revealed that when given a choice of AUS vs. male sling, 92% chose a male sling.
