More than 1,200 people gathered at the Tuscaloosa Amphitheater on Sept. 23 to remember Alabama miners killed on the job, including the 13 miners who were killed in twin explosions at the Jim Walter Resources No. 5 mine exactly 10 years earlier. The touching and uplifting service, highlighted by President Roberts and inspirational speaker Siran Stacy, brought back memories of that terrible day but also helped provide comfort to still-grieving families. "It's been ten years ago for us, but for these families it seems like it's just been ten minutes," Roberts said. "They are the ones whose husbands, fathers, sons, brothers walked out of the house and never came back.
