MALLEABLE CAST IRON AS A MATERIAL FOR THE HIGH DUTY ELEMENTS OF INSTALLATIONS AND INDUSTRY EQUIPMENT

In the article the history of the development of malleable castings production with a special attention payed to the polish foundry engineering and changes occured in the last decade in it was given. There were compiled the chosen properties of the malleable and ductile cast irons and on this basis it was proven that for the grades with R_m higher than 500 MPa these are comparable materials, but for the cases of R_m lower than 500 MPa the white malleable cast iron may be interchanged with the grades EN-GJS-450-10 and EN-GJS-400-15 of ductile cast iron. It was stated that in some cases the production costs of the malleable iron castings may be lower than these of the dutile iron castings. In the article also several examples of using the malleable iron castings in machine-building and automotive industries, as well as in the building engineering, installations and industry equipment are given.
