CHALLENGES FACING POLISH ENGINEERS IN XXI CENTURY IN RELATION TO THE PROCESS OF INTEGRATION WITH THE EUROPEAN UNION AND GLOBALIZATION

The article was presented as an inauguration paper during the opening session of XXIII Congress of the Polish Technicians on the 7th December 2001 in Warsaw. For the first time in the history of the congresses of the Polish engineers and technicians it was decided to hold it in two sessions. The second, final session will take place in June this year. The period of time between these sessions should be utilized for discussing the vital problems which have to be solved by the present-day engineers and technicians. Apart from the discussion on the theses of this paper, the discussion on the two further papers, namely the paper by Ryszard Tadeusiewicz: "Technical education and the demands of the information community" and the paper by Bogdan Ney. Advanced techniques a chance of the civilized development of Poland", also presented during this opening session, will be essential. The Author presented the aims of the convened Congress of the Polish Technicians after more than ten years of the historical transformations of the political system and changes in the economy in Poland. The article has been published in two lull versions: Polish and English.
