The Digital Company Reports Project and the of company exploration reports

The Minerals and Petroleum Division of the Department of Natural Resources and Mines (formerly the Department of Mines and Energy) will soon be implementing a new system for the management and delivery of exploration reports. This system will accept and manage reports in digital form, and will provide access to them electronically via the Internet. The system will provide considerable benefits to clients both in terms of easier submission of reports, and quicker and easier remote access to them.This new system will enhance a service that the Department has provided to the exploration industry for many years. The new system will provide easier remote access to a comprehensive, central and readily available database of exploration data. The database currently comprises over 32,600 company exploration reports. The basis for the development of this database has been a legislative requirement that holders of exploration permits and mineral development licences submit reports on their activities. This requirement is currently embodied in sections 141 (1)(g)(i) and 194(1)(g)(i) of the Mineral Resources Act 1989, which state that it is a condition of Exploration Permits and Mineral Development Licences respectively that holders give to the Minister: progress, relinquishment and final reports, accompanied by maps, sections, charts and other data giving full particulars and results of the exploration program and investigations carried out on the area specified by the Minister…"
