Parasites of ferrets: sharing with their canine and feline friends.

Ferrets are part of the family Mustelidae and have been traditionally kept for working and showing, but they are also increasing in popularity as pets. As a result, veterinary surgeons are being called upon more frequently to give advice on parasite treatment and control in ferrets. Although ferrets, like all animals, carry parasites that are species specific, they also carry many cat and dog parasites and as a result may act as reservoirs of infection for cats and dogs and vice versa. This article discusses parasites commonly found in ferrets and their diagnosis, treatment and control.
