Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae

Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (causing enzootic pneumonia) is a key component to the Porcine Respiratory Disease Complex that is seen widely in growing pigs in the UK. In this third article in the PRDC series, the biology of the agent is described with particular emphasis on its epidemiology, prevalence and role in respiratory diseases of multiple aetiology. Diagnosis and practical disease monitoring are discussed which can be used to assess the impact of Mycoplasma on health and productivity. Therapeuticoptions for control are also addressed.
