The influence of metritis and mastitis on dairy herd fertility: some case examples

The cells of the developing follicle are capable of detecting and responding to inflammatory disease occurring at distant sites within the body and this can influence the capability of the eggs within those follicles to form viable embryos and so influence the ability of a dairy to produce pregnancies. This effect is apparent and significant even in the mildest forms of sub-clinical disease and reinforces the need for effective health protocols on farm.
