GE Energy has shelved its sale of the Baglan Bay CCGT and will re-evaluate its position in 2008. Last April, GE Energy announced that it was prepared to sell its prototype 500MW CCGT, having failed to secure a deal with BP Energy, which owned the site and had first refusal to buy the plant when it was fully commissioned. The station, which is adjacent to the BP Chemical complex, near Port Talbot, became the world's first 60 percent thermal efficiency CCGT, centred around GE's 9H gas turbine technology. It was first run in 2003 and so far has clocked up over 24,000 operating hours, with an average availability of over 90 percent.
