The year 1968 saw an outburst of revolutionary spirit, which seemed to presage great changes for the better. Instead, idealism has given way to a culture offraudu_lence and simulation, which began to be identified in different parts of the analytical world in the 1960s. It is this that has become the phenomenon now know as Political Correctness, which characterizes Orwell's world of 1984, far more of a reality now than 40 years ago.
