Just what is a 'chorionic bump'? According to the literature and to the authors of a study in this issue of the Journal, a chorionic bump is a convex, polypoid, echolucent lesion arising in the chorion that protrudes into the gestational sac. It is thought to represent a hematoma but not a subchorionic hematoma (SCH), as the authors elegantly illustrate in a series of images. Before the term chorionic bump was introduced in 2006, the finding was referred to as a chorionic hematoma as opposed to a subchorionic one, highlighting the anatomical differences between the two findings.
