These authors have shown in a previous publication that women with a short cervix, as measured by transvaginal ultrasound, and a history of preterm birth have a lower risk of recurrent preterm birth if treated with cervical cerclage1. In this secondary analysis, they question whether a woman's body mass index (BMI) influences that effect.The strengths of this paper are that it analyzes data from a large multicenter randomized controlled trial (RCT) within a well-described high-risk population. The authors of this work are leaders within the field of cervical length data and preterm birth prediction. As such, they can be trusted to tell us something useful.
