Solar in the Middle East: The Middle East's solar PV pipeline is beginning to take shape following the announcement of large-scale projects and initiatives across the region in 2012. One of the few positive solar stories this year has been the Middle East, where plans for solar projects announced during 2012, in Saudi Arabia, Oman, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Bahrain, collectively exceed US$3.3 billion (?2.5 billion). One of the reasons for the growing interest is the falling solar costs - of both PV and concentrated solar power (CSP) - and rising energy demand pushing up the cost of fossil fuel power generation for governments.
