The Ardour Solar Index resumed a steady upward trend throughout July, finishing up 20% after a brief pause in June. The index was buoyed by positive industry developments, including the announcement that the Chinese government lifted its PV installation target to 35 GW (from 21 GW) by 2015. Investors were unfazed by the latest solar trade war headlines, which saw China impose tariffs on U.S. and Korean polysilicon imports. Soon after, the EU softened its stance by announcing a potential pact in which Chinese imports would be curbed in exchange for no punitive tariffs. As early 2Q13 reports came in, further optimism was fueled by healthy demand in China, the U.S. and Japan while stable 2Q13 component prices drove margin recovery expectations.
