Production. Russia produced by 15 percent in the average more output over the first nine months of 2003 than in the corresponding period of the previous year depending on the type of iron ore products. The total indices of concentrate and pellets production over January-September 2003 went beyond the same figures of 2002 by correspondingly 11 percent and 25 percent or 6.4 mn tons and 4.4 mn. Figures of sinter production were also outrun by 18 percent or 582 ths. tons. Growth of sinter ore output was the most significant. Production over the first nine months of 2003 expanded by 327 percent or 494 ths. tons. Import. Approximately 7.3 mn of iron ore products were supplied to Russia over January-September of 2003 for the amount exceeding USD 235 mn. Average prices herewith constituted roughly USD/MT 32.0. Export. Tentatively export of iron ore products made approximately 23.7 mn tons over the first nine months of 2003. in terms of value iron ore products for the total amount of roughly USD 358 mn were sold. Average prices herewith constituted USD/MT 15.1 in the period under review. In general approximately 10.3 mn tons of concentrate (43 percent of the total export), about 12.3 mn tons of pellets (52 percent), roughly 1.1 mn tons of sinter ore (5 percent), and more than 2 ths. tons of siderite (0.01 percent) were exported over January-September 2003.
