PITMEN have pulled out all the stops to get the first retreat face in a new seam into production at a Nottinghamshire colliery - and ended up with the development finishing four weeks ahead of time. Over the past 12 months Thoresby miners have safety carved out 7,092 metres of roadways, which include a distance of 2,530m for the supply gate of the first 1.6m thick retreat panel in the Deep Soft seam, accessed as part of a 55 million pounds UK COAL investment programme.
